Lisa and Darcy began Building Roots in 2013 with the purpose of helping overlooked communities become more cohesive. They partnered with diverse communities and youth to create innovative programs which improved the lives of hundreds of residents and enabled dozens of people to get involved and show leadership.

Having themselves gotten multiple projects off the ground, they understand the enormity of the work involved and how much more effective their projects became once they developed a network of mentors around them. They know how to help in tangible ways such as program design, fundraising, communications and innovation.

Your donation will allow Lisa and Darcy to support several young leaders across Canada to create projects that create community development, social inclusion, green spaces and the climate.

More about us

Lift360’s mission is to support young people across Canada who create social impact, to launch, develop and scale their community and climate projects. We will do this through free mentoring, professional advice and network development.

We envision young leaders are given adequate supports to launch and develop their social ventures that in turn will contribute to more cohesive, inclusive and resilient communities.

“The Project FoodChain leadership team are truly thankful to have met Lisa and Darcy from Building Roots. Over the past three years, we have benefited greatly from ongoing, informal mentorship from these two dynamic changemakers. Drawing from their experience building a thriving charity and essential community hub, Lisa and Darcy played an outsized role in our success as we grew from a small volunteer initiative to a viable not-for-profit and soon-to-be full-fledged national charity. They are natural leaders who deeply understand the delicate interplay between community needs, internal team building and savvy stakeholder relations, which is essential to building a successful not-for-profit organization. Just as importantly, they are inspiring leaders, sharing with us how they deftly managed their diverse team, particularly during the challenging pandemic years. The guidance they provided to Project FoodChain and other organizations like us has already resulted in multiple community impacts. We hope to have the opportunity to work with them officially in their new initiative.”

– Kate Hanley, Founder of Project FoodChain

“Lisa and Darcy have been the incredible adult allies we needed when we were starting Youth Gravity. They supported us with their wealth of knowledge on starting grassroots organizations and leading projects. Lisa and Darcy mentored us with booking spaces, navigating funding, creating partnerships and marketing strategies for some of our biggest projects like the Word Up series where we invited youth from different communities to come and express their lived-experiences through poetry. We were also supported with organizing a march against domestic abuse. Lisa and Darcy have always respected youth leadership and they were allies that we could turn to whenever we needed support.”

– Sal Sabila, Founder of Youth Gravity

Glad to support 2 people who really DO know how to get grass-roots community based projects off the ground and running successfully to share their wisdom with others.
