Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada traces its roots to 1985, beginning as a grassroots network of gay and lesbian professionals in Ottawa. What started as a social and fundraising club soon evolved into a national force for queer visibility and empowerment. By 1992, the group became the Lambda Foundation for Excellence, best known for “Wilde About Sappho”—one of Canada’s most celebrated queer literary events.

Today, Lambda focuses on advancing education, research, and financial support for 2SLGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC individuals—primarily youth. Our scholarships, created in partnership with universities and high schools across Canada, honour academic excellence, activism, and leadership. Each fund is stewarded with integrity, and our volunteer-driven model ensures donations directly support those most in need.

For 40 years, Lambda has worked to increase access to education, uplift underrepresented voices, and address systemic discrimination. Guided by the values of adaptability, collaboration, equity, and perseverance, we’re building a future where all queer and trans people can thrive.

“I am beyond grateful to receive this award, which I heard about from my school’s bursary portal and on LinkedIn. It has allowed me to focus on building community in and out of law school, especially in racialized communities — a fundamental reason why I applied to Law School. Thank you for this award.”
