We receive requests from schools and families who seek our services, which we cannot meet. Please help us extend our reach: to more local schools and to communities beyond the Lower Mainland of BC. The need is there.
Learning Buddies Network (LBN) provides free one on one mentoring in reading or math to fragile and marginalized children who otherwise would not get the help that they need. Our Little Buddies are in grades 2-5 and selected by their teachers as struggling academically, and from families who are not in a position to provide them extra help. Our mentors are our enthusiastic high school and university students who are motivated to make a difference in a child’s life. Sessions occur after school in groups settings in school libraries or online.
Through the magic of a supportive relationship with a young person committed to the child, combined with the child’s own hard work, true accomplishment and self-esteem follows.
We offer mentoring all year long, dividing the year into 3 terms: fall and spring school terms, and a summer intensive. Some children attend 1 term; many attend 2 or 3 terms in a year.
LBN has grown a great deal in recent years. In 2018-2019, we offered almost 200 spots for children to attend a block of sessions. In 2022-2023 we have provided more than 550 spots.
As LBN becomes known we receive requests from schools and families who seek our services, which we cannot meet. Please help us extend our reach: to more local schools and to communities beyond the Lower Mainland. The need is there.
