Prince Edward County Food Hub Inc. is a federally incorporated, not-for-profit commercial kitchen based in Prince Edward County, Ontario. It originated from a community effort to repurpose an under-utilized school building into a vibrant space that supports local food entrepreneurs and addresses food insecurity.

The Food Hub’s mission is to improve food access and support healthy eating, with a particular focus on underserved, low-income families. One of the key ways the Food Hub addresses food insecurity is through its free cooking club classes, designed for various age groups to improve food literacy and nutrition. These classes, along with other workshops, help combat food insecurity by equipping individuals with the skills to make healthy meals and improve their overall food access.

The innovative educational programs encourage sustainable eating practices, empowering individuals to make informed food choices that benefit their health and the environment. In addition, the County Food Hub hosts a wholesale produce market open to the public and is home to food security groups that make ready-to-heat meals that support those in need at the Youth Centre, homeless shelter, and families in need. The County Food Hub also supports local entrepreneurs by providing food production and development resources, helping them bring their ideas to market and contributing to the region’s economic growth.

The County Food Hub provides a shared commercial kitchen and food business incubation space, supporting local food, agriculture, service, and entertainment industries. The kitchen is available for rent at a highly affordable rate, making it accessible to many food entrepreneurs and community members. It helps local entrepreneurs grow businesses, fosters economic development, and contributes to the region’s food sustainability efforts.
