Club Sandwich

We ‘sandwich’ the meal gap for the homeless and food insecure in Toronto. The meal gap is the time period between when local missions provide a hot meal or food bank offering and until they do so again.

Our goal is to ‘sandwich’ the meal gap that exists for the homeless and food insecure. The meal gap is the time period between when local missions provide a hot meal or food bank offering and until they do so again.

Club Sandwich is a grassroots food security organization with over 450 volunteers that weekly deliver over 2400 sandwiches (and growing weekly) to local missions. Those missions serve them to their guests as a takeaway meal.

100% of your monetary donation goes to purchasing sandwich ingredients and you will receive a charitable tax receipt.

We use the funds in two ways to ‘sandwich’ the meal gap:
1. We provide local area residents that have time to prepare sandwiches,  yet possibly not the finances, a weekly disbursement to purchase the ingredients. This also supports local businesses offering sandwich ingredients.
2. We purchase ingredients for onsite volunteers to prepare sandwiches in ‘Kitchen Community’ at our clubhouse located at the MCC Toronto all day Wednesdays and Thursday mornings each and every week. As every week passes we grow our onsite output 20-50%

Our weekly logistics work as follows:

All day Wednesday and Thursday morning sandwiches made by local area Club Sandwich members get dropped into a contactless bin and moved into coolers with ice packs by onsite volunteers. Those same onsite volunteers prepare sandwiches with ingredients purchased via donated monetary funds. On Thursdays at 11am all of the sandwich donations are sorted and volunteer drivers deliver them to 9 (and growing) missions.

Our weekly sandwich drive currently supports 9 Toronto area charities including Good Shepherd Ministries, St. John the Compassionate Mission, Danforth Church, Fontbonne Ministries Mustard Seed, St. Luke’s United Church, Bethany Baptist Church, Eastview Community Centre Senior’s Outreach Programming, CFTO, South Riverdale Community Centre and more being added when we can sustainably guarantee a weekly delivery to each.

Thank you for helping ‘sandwich’ the meal gap for the homeless and the food insecure.

🥪 = ❤️

I strongly believe in paying it forward because you never know if you will be on the receiving end

I believe paying it forward when you are fortunate because you never know where life may take you or you maybe on the receiving end

I have been donating the same amount every month almost since the start of this project. Due to covid I am unable to return to Toronto at this time. If I can’t be there to make sandwiches, I can help others to do it! This is just such an amazing coming together of people helping people and I am so happy to be a part in it all.

I plan to keep making sandwiches when time allows but my schedule has gone crazy. I hope a weekly contribution can help keep the sandwich train running.
